The perfect ride is both plush and firm at the same time. Not mushy yet not harsh with great feel and bottoming resistance. These requirements seem to contradict each other, soft and firm. So how do we make the ride both plush and firm?

Proper suspension setup begins with correct springs. Most sport bikes have soft springs yet they're harsh. This is because the standard damping system comes into play creating excessive high speed compression damping. This creates a "spike" when you hit square edge shape bumps (pothole, expansion joints, etc.). Therefore we manufacture High Performance Springs as well as valving kits like Gold Valves and Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators. The combination of proper springs and proper damping is extraordinary.

Gold Valves & Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators "What's the difference?"

There are two types of forks, Cartridge Forks and Damping Rod Forks. Cartridge Forks are used predominantly on modern Sport Bikes and Road Racers. In stock form this style fork offers more precise damping control than older style Damping Rod Forks. Race Tech produces Gold Valves to improve the characteristics of Cartridge Style Forks.

Gold Valve Cartridge Emulators were invented by Race Tech's Paul Thede to give older style Damping Rod Forks the same advantages as well tuned Cartridge Forks with Gold Valves.

What does the ultimate front end feel like? It's controlled, doesn't dive excessively, it's firm yet plush at the same time. Stock cartridge forks, at best, are a compromise and some are downright poor. The fact that you have a cartridge system doesn't necessarily mean that it works well. The stock valving systems can be modified but they all have major limitations. The solution is Gold Valves. By improving the piston design we are able to give outstanding performance and tuneability. And, as with other Gold Valve Products, they can be installed and tuned by any competent mechanic.
